LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Snapchat quietly entered into the ticket-selling business last month, announcing it was selling 20 tickets to the Los Angeles Football Club through an integration with SeatGeek.
The LAFC announced May 23 it was “breaking ground once again” by making 20 tickets available for a May 26 match against DC United via Snapchat at a 50 percent discount. The soccer team plays at L.A.’s newest stadium Banc of California Stadium, which just recently held its first concerts.
“While the integration of SeatGeek directly into Snapchat lets fans purchase tickets without ever having to leave the app.” the announcement on the team’s website says.
The announcement has only recently gained traction with the media. CNet reported today that fans can buy tickets directly to SeatGeek via the Snapchat app by swiping up, selecting their tickets and checking out.
Snapchat began working on e-commerce features in February, according to CNet, and SeatGeek said it is working to add more events to Snapchat.
“Selling tickets directly to our followers on Snapchat gives us an incredible opportunity to connect with our most dedicated supporters,” said Tom Penn, Los Angeles Football Club’s president and co-owner.
“We see Snapchat as an incredible opportunity for teams and artists to increase discovery of their events, while also potentially rewarding their most dedicated fans with exclusive offers,” said SeatGeek co-founder Russ D’Souza.
