LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The North American debut of Universal’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” propelled it to the top of the weekend box office, with the dinosaur-themed sci-fi adventure sequel generating $256.7M worldwide.

“Fallen Kingdom” is the fifth entry for Jurassic franchise, and featured the direction of J. A. Bayona, who was previously best known for helming the 2007 horror film “The Orphanage.”

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B. D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from previous “Jurassic” forays with Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, among the new faces in the cast.

Disney/Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” slipped to the number 2 spot, both in North America, where the movie earned $80.9M, and worldwide, where it generated $137.7M over the course of the weekend.

“Ocean’s 8” an all-female heist movie from Warner Bros. rounded out the top 3, picking up $38.5M, with $11.7M coming from North American theaters.
