MANCHESTER, England (CelebrityAccess) “Back To The Future: The Musical” is launching, across The Pond, next year.
The musical, which had an original launch time of 2015 to coincide with Marty McFly’s trip to the future in “Back To The Future II,” is expected to have a 12-week run at the Manchester Opera House starting Feb. 20. It will then be expected to move to London’s West End.
None of this should matter much to North Americans without traveling budgets: there are no plans, yet, to take the musical to the U.S.
Bob Gale, who co-wrote all of the Back To The Future movies, is writing the script while Alan Silvestri has composed an original score. Glen Ballard is also writing songs and, yes, “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B Goode” are expected to be part of the musical.
Olly Dobson will play the role of Marty McFly and John Rando, Tony Award-winning director of “Urinetown The Musical,” will direct.
“Ever since Bob Gale told me about this, I’ve been eagerly anticipating it and, in particular, wondering what it will be like to hear Doc Brown sing,” Christopher Lloyd said in a statement. “So I’m really looking forward to attending the opening in Manchester to experience our wonderful movie as a musical. I’m only sorry I don’t have a real time machine so that I could see it tomorrow!”
