NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess) – Nashville-based independent record label Big Loud has announced the launch of Songs & Daughters, an imprint devoted solely to signing female acts.

Hit songwriter and producer Nicolle Galyon will serve as president of the label. Galyon is best known for co-writing such songs as Dan + Shay’s “Tequila” and Miranda Lambert’s “Automatic.”

“Songs & Daughters is a female-focused record label, but even bigger than that, what [we’re] building is a brand: a music house for female creatives,” Gaylon said in a recent interview with Billboard. “It’s a way for me to use my platform and pass the baton onto the next generation of songwriters and artists. I want to create something that didn’t exist when I came to Nashville 17 years ago.”

She added: “The mission is that we nurture both the art, which is the song, and the artist, which is the daughter. The person is just as important to me as the product.”

While Songs & Daughters is the first label of its kind in Nashville, it isn’t the first all-female label to exist. In the early 1970s, Olivia Records out of Washington, D.C. distributed over 40 albums and sold nearly one million records by its all-female roster, according to Billboard. More recently, in 2018, hip-hop act TT the Artist launched Club Queen Records, which boasts an all-female roster of artists and employees who are focused on highlighting women of color in hip-hop, dance and R&B.

Songs & Daughters will be run by Galyon with assistance from the Big Loud team, which will handle radio promotion and other needs.

The label’s first signing is 22-year-old Madison Kozak whose debut song “First Last Name” will be officially released on July 26 to DSPs with more new music to follow.
