(CelebrityAccess) — Warner Bros. spooky sequel It Chapter Two continued to dominate the weekend box office, adding an additional $40 million to its domestic grosses in its second week in theaters.
Globally, It Chapter Two has raked in $323.3 million, bringing overall earnings for the franchise, which is based on a novel by horror writer Stephen King, north of $1 billion.
Coming in second place this weekend was “Hustlers” an R-rated release from STXfilms which features Jennifer ‘JLo’ Lopez and Wu Constance.
As Variety noted, Hustlers overperformed on its debut weekend, earning a reported $34 million from North American cinemas in what was Lopez’s best live-action opening to date. ulia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B also star in the film, which was written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, whose previous credits include her 2012 directorial debut “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.”
Hustlers, which cost about $20 million to make, generated strong buzz following its showing at the Toronto Film Festival and recounts the ‘based on true events’ story of a group of exotic dancers who hatch a plan to drug and rob their well-heeled Wall Street customers.
