LISBON (CelebrityAccess) — Live Nation has announced plans to expand its presence in Portugal by acquiring a majority stake in Lisbon’s MEO Arena.
The 20,000-capacity venue, one of the largest in Europe, opened in 1998 for the ‘Expo 98’ World Trade Fair. It has since hosted global artists such as Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Adele, and Travis Scott.

With this investment, we’re committed to bringing more shows to Portugal, supporting the local economy, and creating incredible experiences for fans,” said John Reid, President of Live Nation EMEA.
Jorge Vinha da Silva, CEO of MEO Arena, added, “MEO Arena is renowned nationally and internationally for hosting major events. This partnership with Live Nation will enhance its reputation as a cultural destination. I’m excited to enter this new era for both MEO Arena and Portugal.”
Live Nation plans to renovate the arena, introducing upgrades to premium seating, skyboxes, dressing rooms, and concessions, along with measures to align the venue with its Green Nation sustainability initiatives.
Daily operations will remain under the current management, supported by Live Nation’s global network. The deal is pending approval from Portugal’s competition authority and is expected to close by late 2024 or early 2025.
