Fans Turn To Streaming To #SaveNelly

(CelebrityAccess) — Rapper Nelly's fans are turning to streaming in order to help him with his $2.4 million tax lien.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was hit with the lien in July, according to court records reviewed by the St. Louis Business Journal. As well, Nelly is allegedly in arrears to the State of Missouri to the tune of s $149,511.69 in taxes and interest from 2013 and the state of California filed a $51,108 tax lien against Nelly, records show.

Now, according to Mashable, his fans are trying to help dig him out of the hole. After Spin magazine calculated that it would take 287,176,547 streams for Nelly to pay off his debt, his supporters are streaming Nelly's hit "Hot In Herre" on Spotify on repeat and are using the Twitter hashtag #hotinherrestreamingparty to raise awareness of the effort.

"Pro tip: turn your phone to mute and put on "hot in herre" while you sleep tonight. 7 hours sleep = 110 plays," one fan helpfully tweeted. – Staff Writers
