(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — All 112,000 tickets to this year’s highly anticipated Glastonbury Festival sold out in a record 2 and a half hours on Sunday.
Aloud.com, the only website selling the vouchers for the event, recorded 7.5 million hits during the rapid sellout. Phonelines were jammed from 9am, selling the tickets in half the time predicted.
Michael Eavis, the festival founder, said ticket sales had gone “like a dream” with the new ticketing system in place. Last year, ticket buyers registered thousands of complaints of website failures and busy phoneline.
Gigi Dryer, head of Aloud.com, said: “Now we hope that those lucky enough to have a ticket will have the best festival ever.”
Festival-goers will need to show a photo ID, which will be matched with the name on their ticket in an attempt to beat high-priced scalpers.
