Guardians Holds On To Top Spot For Second Week

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Superheroes continue to put butts in seats as Disney/Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy II retained the top spot in both the U.S. and international markets, according to box office estimates compiled by comScore.

Now in its second week of wide distribution, Guardians added $63m domestically, and $115.2M worldwide, bringing its cumulative total up to a notable $630 million.

Warner Bros. swords and sorcery adventure King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword proved to be disappointing revenuewise for the studio. The Guy Ritchie-helmed fantasy adventure received little publicity support from the studio and after blistering reviews from critics, failed to resonate with the movie going public.

The film, which cost $175 million to produce, debuted to a paltry $14.7M domestically and $43.8M worldwide.

Also under-performing on its debut weekend was the comedy mom and daughter buddy pic Snatched, starring Goldie Hawn in her first feature in 15 years, with ever-present comedian Amy Schumer.

The film, aimed at Mother's Day in the U.S., generated 17.5M domestically, falling short of 20th Century Fox's expecations of a $20m domestic opening, and just $20.7M worldwide.
