LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Insomniac Events, the EDM promoter behind events such as the Elecric Daisy Carnival has been hit by a lawsuit from Gary Richards, head of Hard Events, over the rights to the Electric Daisy name.
According to Music Times, the lawsuit, filed on April 20th, challenges Insomniac's trademark of the event. Richards alleges that he and his partner Stephen Enos began using the Electric Daisy Carnival name in the early 1990s for raves and only orally licensed Rotella to use the name in 1997.
The lawsuit also claims that Rotella registered the Electric Daisy Carnival name in 2010, without consent of Richards or Enos and wrong assigned it to Insomniac Events.
If the lawsuit is successful, Insomniac would likely have to change the name for their Flagship festival brand.
Ironically, both Hard Events and Insomniac are affiliated with Live Nation, with the promoter giant acquiring Hard Events in 2012, and partnering with Insomniac in 2013. – Staff Writers
