IRVINE, CA (CelebrityAccess) — The Irvine City Council voted unanimously on Monday to approve a plan by Live Nation and real estate developer FivePoint to develop a temporary 12,000-seat outdoor music amphitheater adjacent to the Orange County Great Park, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The temporary shed would serve as a replacement for the 16,000-capacity Irvine Meadows amphitheater, which closed for good at the end of its season in 2016. Live Nation hopes to have the temporary venue up and running in time to host shows for the 2017 season.
According to the Times, Live Nation and FivePoint said the temporary facility would be based on the design of America’s Cup Pavilion in San Francisco. As part of the effort, Live Nation has committed to building 12,000 seats, 4,000 parking spots as well as concession and hospitality offerings for the temporary venue.
The two companies also hope to build a permanent replacement for Irvine Meadows. The lease for the amphitheater, which first opened in 1981, ended last year and the venue has been razed with plans to replace it with a residential and commercial development.
“I only hope that soon we will be celebrating the approval of the permanent amphitheater at the Great Park to ensure live music in Irvine continues for many generations to come,” Emile Haddad, chairman, and CEO of FivePoint told the Times. – Staff Writers
