Radionomy Buys Winamp, Shoutcast From AOL

NEW YORK (Hypebot) – Two of the original digital music services, Winamp and Shoutcast, were saved from extinction at the last minute this week by international online radio hub Radionomy. The ink is not dry on the deal, according to several sources, but Winamp's nameservers have already been transferred from AOL to Radionomy.

Radionomy offers a d.i.y. platform for 6000+ online broadcasters; and Shoutcasts 50,000 station offering would certainly broaden the Brussel's based startup's footprint. Radionomy could also use Winamp's media player and other acquired tech to improve both their multi-platform listener experience and how broadcasters build and program stations.

Launched in 2008, Radionomy is backed by $6 million in funding including a 2012 $4.5 million venture round. Recently, the company announced that it was combining with TargetSpot, the largest digital audio advertising network in the world. The deal should increase opportunities for Radionomy broadcasters to monetize their stations.
