SILVER SPRING, MD (CelebrityAccess) — Officials in Silver Spring are seeking a development partner for a mixed-use area in the city's downtown that includes an arena.
“It’s in a location that I think is ideal. The need is there, so we put out the bid for people to come to engage the county,” Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett told WJLA News.
Currently, the county is considering the properties at 1101 Bonifant Street in Silver Spring as the potential site. It includes two parking garages and a connecting bridge, WJLA said.
The proposed mixed-use area is still in the very early stages. The county released a Request for Development Proposals on Monday and set a deadline for responses for April 10th.
According to a news release, the mixed-use arena could serve as a home to a minor league professional sports team, commencements, festivals and other events. The mixed use area would also include adjacent retail and residential facilities. – Staff Writers
