Spotify And EMI Shake Hands

LONDON (Hypebot) – Reports reveal that Spotify finalized a U.S. distribution deal with EMI Music.

This gives the company approval from two of the big four major labels. Sony closed a deal with Spotify last month. While Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman has changed his tune about Spotify, it doesn't mean they'll sign on.

So too, Spotify still needs approval from the largest the label, Universal, before a launch can be certain. The company will also have to navigate the Apple Tax and an increasing competitive market. Sony launched their service in the U.S. today.

Slacker will roll theirs out in March.

As each day passes, shifts in the landscape grow more prevalent. That doesn't mean that Spotify won't change the world, just that no one can be for certain what it will look like when the opportunity to do so rises.

As we learned with the new Apple Tax, Spotify can play chess with Apple all it wants, but Apple owns the board beneath them.
