AUSTIN, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Stubb's Bar-B-Q, one of the focal venues for Austin-based South by Southwest Music Festival has revealed its plans for a major upgrade.
According to KXAN News, the concert venue and their architectural firm have pitched its preliminary plans to the city and will need a zoning variance due to being located in a flood plain and a variance on parking restrictions.
The project includes plans to reorient the amphitheater's stage away from a nearby limestone creek bed, which causes noise problems for neighbors as well as allowing for a slightly larger stage.
The expansion, if approved, will also add a two-story, 1,500 capacity indoor venue that can operate year-round and fill a niche between smaller clubs and larger venues such as the Austin Music Hall.
The Downtown Commission has given a preliminary nod to the plans but there will likely need to be numerous meetings with additional city commissions before the plans can shift into high gear. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
