Talent Agency Seeks To Create A Space For Female Artists In The EDM World

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) –The EDM-focused booking agency Discwoman is seeking to carve out a space in the electronic music industry for women.

Founded in 2014 by Christine Tran, Emma Olson and Frankie Hutchinson, Discwoman was intended as a platform to promote female, and female-identifying artists in the electronic music space.

“Right now the majority of big EDM executives are white males. By offering more perspectives within the business side of the industry this ingrained sexism can change,” Tran told The Huffington Post in a recent interview.

According to HuffPo, women make up just 11 percent of artists at electronic music festivals in 2015 and just 18 percent electronic labels had female EDM artists on their roster as of 2014.

The agency currently reps 4 artists: DJ Haram, a New Jersey-based DJ and producer; New York based techno DJs Umfang and Volvox and Bearcat, who the agency describes as a multidisciplinary artist working within the realms of sound, performance and makeup.

“You can’t just talk about it, you have to do something,” Discwoman's Frankie Hutchinson told Forbes in a recent interview. “We saw that to change lineups we would have to get more control in booking, so that’s why we went into being a booking agency,”
