The Majestic To Rise Anew

MADISON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The historic Majestic Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin has been purchased by a group of investors with the hopes of turning the venue into a nationally-known live music venue.

The old vaudeville theater had been operating as a nightclub and bar but had been closed after a string of fights and assaults had occurred there, causing the city to put restrictions on their licensing.

The former owners, the Schiavo family of Madison, had been initially looking for $1.6 million for the theatre but sold the place for a reported $1.35 million, according to the Capital Times.

Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie will be overseeing operations for the group of investors who purchased the theatre. They hope to turn the theatre into Madison's premier space for alternative and independent performers, creating an anchor to inspire something akin to Austin's music in Madison.

"This is going to be an entirely different operation. It's not going to be $12 all you can drink," Matt Gerding told the Capital Times.

Live music is planned for at least 4 nights a week with options for other events such as cult movies on off-nights. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
