PALM SPRINGS, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A package of suspicious white powder was mailed to the McCallum Theatre on October 10, leading to an evacuation and subsequent5 hour quarantine of the venue, the Desert Sun reported.
The package, which was addressed to comedian Bill Maher was opened by venue staff. Maher, an outspoken liberal social commentator and atheist was scheduled to appear at the theatre on October 11. Authorities were notified and responded with a hazardous materials response team. A number of people were evacuated from the venue and four people inside of the theater were subsequently 'decontaminated.'
The incident led to the cancellation of an Boz Skaggs concert that had been scheduled for that night but an October 11 appearance by Bill Maher was still on.
