SAN FRANCISCO, CA(Hypebot) – Bob Moczydlowsky, until recently the popular senior vice president of product and marketing at Topspin Media, has been hired by Twitter to head its music effort. Tatiana Simonian exited the position last month. Moz will be tasked with with building music industry and artist partnerships.
What does Moz's departure mean for Topspin?
Just a few months ago, high profile CEO Ian Rogers left Topspin to head Beat Music, the soon to launch, streaming music service. Now, the respected and well liked Moczydlowsky exits and lands at Twitter. At the very least, the departure of two top executives hints at investor dissatisfaction. Perhaps it's the Topspin product that is under performing; but just as likely there's a realization that the direct to fan space is not as profitable or easily serviced as visionaries like Rogers and Moz first believed.
The Future Of Topspin Is Beats
Beats made a "significant investment" in Topspin when they brought over Rogers, who still sits on its board. And Topspin is being baked into the fabric of Beats Music, providing artist profiles, direct to fan sales and more. If Beats thrives – and its an if, given the competition – Topspin could thrive. If not, its fate is less certain.
