LONDON (VIP NEWS) — The British singer who committed suicide at a pop festival in Belgium had apparently been terrified he had crippled a fan in a botched crowd-surfing attempt.
Charles Haddon, of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, injured the girl when he suddenly dived off the stage at the Pukkelpop festival at the end of the band's gig.
The action took many by surprise and they scrambled to get out of the way, according to the Flemish daily newspaper De Standaard.
As they did so, Haddon landed on the young girl, who was taken to hospital with leg and back injuries.
After the accident, witnesses said the 22-year-old looked shocked and concerned, saying, "I hope she gets through… I hope she will still be able to walk."
One witness said, "I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt anyone. The look in his eyes when he stood up and they pulled the girl from the ground was very scary."
Apparently no one was expecting Haddon to dive from the stage.
De Standaard claims Haddon then had a "furious argument" with his fellow band members.
Several hours later he climbed up a telecommunications mast in a car park behind the main stage and threw himself off.
District attorney Marc Rubens said police were treating his death as a suicide.
A hospital spokeswoman said the injured girl, who did not wish to be identified, was expected to make a full recovery.
Electro-pop band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool were due to play a number of festivals in Europe before touring in Australia next month.
