LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved zoning changes clearing the way for the demolition of Amoeba Music distinctive Los Angeles outlet.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the vote facilitates the development of a new, 26-story building at the site of the current Amoeba Music store, located at the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga boulevards.

The store, which opened in 2001, was sold in 2015 to real estate developer GPI Companies for $34 million, the Times reported.

It is unclear where Amoeba will relocate to following the redevelopment, but Amoeba’s Jim Henderson told The Times that the store’s lease will keep it in its current location “for about another year,” with the possibility of a brief extension.

“Rest assured, we are NOT closing, but we are now in a position where we may have to change locations in the coming years,” Henderson told the newspaper.

“But I can also tell you that if we find something that’s a fit, then obviously we won’t be taking those extensions and GPI can get on with their business and we can get on with ours,” Henderson added.
