LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — BMG announced the promotion of John Clifford to helm its worldwide production music business.
Clifford, who is based in London, will report to BMG CFO Maximilian Dressendoerfer who continues to oversee the segment.
“Production music is one of our most dynamic segments of business,” said Dressendoerfer. “John Clifford has made a significant contribution to this growth and I am delighted to congratulate him on his expanded role.”
John Clifford said, “In many ways BMG Production Music has followed the same growth trajectory as the core BMG business, first of all defining a unique market positioning and then growing swiftly by acquisition. The emphasis now is on organic growth and service delivery, but we do so now as a global player.”
Clifford is stepping into a role vacated by Geert-Willem “GW” Koolhof, who decided to step down after BMGPM initial development. Koolhof joined BMG in 2015 as Finance & Commercial Director Benelux where he oversaw the integration of Talpa Music and 8ball Music.
A native of remote and mysterious Australia, Clifford joined BMG in 2017 as MD UK and SVP Global Sales, Marketing & Repertoire and has since helped to develop BMGPM into the fourth-largest music production business in the world.
Clifford’s appointment comes as BMG appears to be consolidating leadership for much of their business in London. With the London-based Clifford leading BMGPM, that brings the number of BMG global hubs in London to four, including catalog recordings, master licensing and sub-publishing.
