LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Universal Music Group's Chairman and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge, was the recipient of Variety’s 2016 EmPOWerment Award in recognition for hiring, supporting and promoting female executives.
Grainge is only the second executive to receive Variety’s EmPOWerment Award, which is presented to a “champion of female leadership.”
The award was presented by actress, director and producer Rosanna Arquette at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons. The event, in partnership with Lifetime Television, honored Laverne Cox, Miley Cyrus, Ava DuVernay, Scarlett Johansson and Helen Mirren for being Hollywood’s most philanthropic women.
In addition to the award, Variety published a profile of Grainge in its Oct. 11, 2016, Power of Women special issue, that said, “Since becoming chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group in 2011, Lucian Grainge has overseen a noticeable shift in the demographics of the industry leader’s C-suites.”
This year’s Variety Impact Report honored Universal Music Group executives Michele Anthony, Executive Vice President and Member of the Executive Management Board, Jody Gerson, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group and Member of the Executive Management Board, Wendy Goldstein, Republic Records Executive Vice President and Head of Urban A&R, Ethiopia Habtemariam, Motown Records President and Head of Urban Music at Universal Music Publishing Group, and Michelle Jubelirer, Capitol Music Group Chief Operating Officer. – Staff Writers
