SPRINGFIELD, NY (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Madison Square Garden Entertainment is reportedly looking to buy 910 acres of land in rural New York with an eye towards developing a new festival in 2010.
According to Billboard, the festival will be a three day camper like Bonnaroo as opposed to the more urban vibe of an event like Lollapalooza in Chicago. As of yet, the planned festival has yet to be named, nor has any specific date been identified.
"We plan to do things right," MSGE senior VP, business development Don Simpson told Billboard "We're probably going to spend a few more dollars than some other folks might, but we want to make it a great experience and the best in North America."
The firm plans to invest $15 million on infrastructure upgrades at the site which was chosen for its size, conviviality and access to transportation routes.
When Billboard asked if Simpson was concerned by the recent downturn in the festival market, he replied: "I don't see that the market is softening or getting weaker. Obviously, we're looking at an area in the Northeast where there isn't one of these large, three-day festivals, and we feel with the population base within that vicinity we have a lot of people to draw from." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
