Phish Fan Falls Hard

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A man jumped from the balcony at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y., on Wednesday night, and fell 25 feet to the seats below, the New York State Park Police said.

The man fell shortly before 10 p.m., during a sold-out Phish concert, and was airlifted to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he is being treated for his injuries, the police said in a statement.

One fan, Marc Lowenstein, said he saw the incident from the V.I.P. section, and that it seemed clear to him that the man had deliberately jumped, with significant forward momentum.

“I was facing in that direction and talking to friends when I see a man with long hair in a white T-shirt flying off the balcony, feet-first into the pavilion below,” Mr. Lowenstein said according to the New York Times. “Only two people near me saw it happen and we talked briefly to confirm — we were both shaking noticeably.”

Several news reports said the jumper was a 25-year-old man, but the police said that his identity was still being confirmed. A spokeswoman for the hospital said that a man had been taken there by helicopter from the theater on Wednesday night, and that this patient was in critical but stable condition, but did not release his name. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
