Secret Life Of Pets Fends Off Ghostbusters

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Universal's "Secret Life of Pets" stayed at the top of the dogpile for a second weekend, earning an estimated $50.6 million according to estimates by comScore.

The animated romp features the voice work of Louis C.K., Kevin Heart, Jenny Slate and Lake Bell, who take the parts of various New York pets and their misadventures in the big city.

Sony Pictures resurrected comedy "Ghostbusters" took second place, earning an estimated $46.0 million in its debut. A re-imagining of the comedy classic, the 2015 edition of Ghostbusters features Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as the titular Ghostbusters. The film's success was notable after it earned the dubious distinction of being one of the most despised preview trailers on Youtube.

Disney's "Legend of Tarzan" clung on tenaciously to third place, earning an estimated $11.1 million for the weekend.
