NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) iHeartMedia has announced it has entered into agreement to acquire podcast publisher Stuff Media, home to the HowStuffWorks podcasting business.
iHeartMedia said in press release that the acquisition will expand its podcasting platform, increase its position as the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally and almost double its usage metrics.
HowStuffWorks, formed in 1998, is considered one of the first companies to turn podcasting into a revenue-generating business. It currently has more than 61 million global downloads and streams per month. Its “Stuff You Should Know” surpassed 500 million downloads this year, the first podcast to do so.
Stuff Media’s Stuff You Should Know, Stuff You Missed in History Class, TechStuff and BrainStuff podcasts have all reached ten years of podcasting and over 1,000 published episodes milestones.
The transaction is subject to bankruptcy court approval.
