His surgery on Sunday, November 23, took seven hours. His left leg was broken two places below the knee and his left shoulder was replaced.

Martin is resting and doing well and will hopefully be med-evaced by plane later this week to his home.

Papa Grows Funk Manager Leaves Band, Resumes Legal Career

(CelebrityAccess News Service) – Jonathan Weiss is no longer managing Papa Grows Funk, a band he's managed since their start in 2000, after deciding to resume his legal career in New York.

Weiss practiced law for a number of years before he moved
to New Orleans to work with Papa Grows Funk and other acts. He is currently acting as the band's business advisor, but is no longer involved in the day-to-day business operations of the band.

"I felt that being in New York, in a law firm, with the connections I have/can make, would be more beneficial to the band in the long run and be a better utilization of my own time," he told CelebrityAccess.

"I love the band members, their music intensity, and their commitment to the New Orleans music tradition," he continued. "Relatively few people care about musical history, or tradition, or the culture where the music came from anymore and
that is what makes New Orleans musicians in general, and Papa Grows Funk, in
particular, stand apart. I am proud of where the band is after only two
years on the road compared to where we started (in the Old Point Bar playing
for 30 people on Monday nights). And we did it ourselves with very little
help from the "business." I think PGF has a great future.

Under Weiss' management, PGF released two best-selling CDs — "Doin' It" (2001) and "Shakin'" (2003), and headlined at the 2003 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage
Festival. — Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
