INDIO, California (CelebrityAccess) — During the closing set of the first weekend of the tony Desert Trip music festival, Roger Waters did not shy away from airing his political views.
According to Billboard, Waters peppered his set with audio-visual imagery aimed squarely at the current and controversial Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. While Waters played the Pink Floyd classic "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", display screens at the festival show images of Donald Trump holding a sex toy as a weapon, wearing a KKK hood or giving the Nazi salute.
Some of the imagery was crude and confrontational, showing Trump with a micropenis, or showing him with the word charade written across his face.
The political commentary went beyond the screens and Billboard reported that the band's iconic flying pig was present at the show, but this time, it was red and black with x's for eyes and emblazoned with anti-Trump slogans such as "Fuck Trump and his wall" and "Arrogant, lying, racist, sexist."
Waters also used Trump's own words to hoist the candidate on his own petard, showing images of some of Trump's more pungent quotes where he brags about his wealth or objectifies women, Billboard said.
Not all of Waters' political commentary was aimed at the GOP candidate. He also used his set as a bully pulpit to express his support for college students protesting the Israeli occupation of Palestine and his support for the appendant divestment movement.
"It's rare somebody like me gets a platform like this, so I'm going to use it," Waters said, per Billboard. "I encourage the government in Israel to end the occupation." – Staff Writers
