TAMPA (CelebrityAccess) — At least two people are dead and more than 57 were hospitalized following an EDM music festival in Tampa over the weekend, authorities said.
According to Fox 13 News, police said a 22-year-old Melbourne man and a 21-year-old Kissimmee woman were hospitalized Saturday after attending the Sunset Music Festival at Raymond James Stadium. Both subsequently died and investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
Police also made 25 felony arrests, eight misdemeanor arrests, and cited 16 people for marijuana at the festival.
Festival organizers employed drug sniffing dogs to screen people at the entrance to the festival, Fox 13 said.
"This year, they did more than they did the previous year," Officer Steve Hegarty told Fox. "I don't know what plans they have for next year, but they are going to be well aware of the numbers we had this year."
In a statement to local NBC affiliate WFLA, Sunset organizers said:
"The health, safety and welfare of our fans and community is Sunset Music Festival’s first priority and we take every measure to create a safe environment at our events. Any loss of life is a tragedy and we extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those affected. Due to the ongoing investigation by the medical examiner’s office, Sunset will not issue additional comments at this time." – Staff Writers
